Tyre and rubber plants: cost per tyre under pressure from imports

Why the tyre and rubber plants that remain in Germany have to cut cost per tyre, and how to check mixing, curing and energy control before investing.

Remaining tyre plants must cut cost per tyre

What happens. Several German tyre plants have closed or announced closure, with cheap imports among the reasons named (hessenschau). The plants that stay are measured against the cost per tyre, and every cent comes from mixing, curing or energy.

What it costs. Steam and power in the curing presses, mixer energy, scrap from mixes that were out of tolerance and cure times with a safety margin. Each is small per tyre and large over a year.

Why the usual fix fails. Cure times and mixing programmes are set once with reserve and left alone, because a changed recipe means a risk to quality. Cutting staff or running shorter shifts does not touch these margins.

How a fixed-price remote diagnosis checks it. From press and mixer logs (temperatures, pressures, steam and power meters, mix and cure times, test results) I look at where the margins are larger than the process needs. The fixed-price remote diagnosis tells you whether predictive control of mixing and curing, or a computed state of the rubber, can safely reduce them, and which measurements it needs.

Within a fixed scope and at a fixed price, I review your data, control structure and measurements remotely and tell you whether the problem on this page is behind your symptoms and what fixing it would take. You get a short summary for decision-makers and a technical report for your engineers.
